Our Objectives
Changing school environments and improving academic performance

The Urban Teaching Academy, our team of dedicated faculty and our growing partnerships work diligently to ensure that we maintain and meet our objectives. We continually assess and grow our model to meet the needs of our student teachers, master teachers and the community of students in urban public schools.

Our Objectives

• Recruit new teachers from a diverse pool of candidates using a pre-established seamless relationship between local Community Colleges and teacher education programs at CSULB.

• Prepare credential candidates in classroom settings providing hands-on learning opportunities in select urban schools.

• Provide collaborative research opportunities for university faculty and classroom teachers working together to address the needs of urban schools.

• Offer an on-site Master’s Degree program for inservice teachers providing enhanced and sustainable professional development.

• Develop solutions to educational challenges that will enhance professional development and improve student learning through action research projects with future and veteran teachers.

• Serve school sites, its teachers and students by carefully aligning coursework, field experiences, and student projects with individual school improvement plans.

• Change  school environments and improve academic performance fostering a continuous “loop of learning” among preservice students, classroom teachers, school principals and CSULB faculty.
